Watercolor Series — Still Water

An eight-piece watercolor series exploring reflection, surface, and stillness.

This personal series began as a study of water as a compositional device — the way a still surface doubles a scene and compresses sky and earth into a single plane. Eight pieces, each 11×15 inches on 140 lb cold-press paper, completed over four months.

Working wet-on-wet for the initial washes and building texture with dry-brush passes, the palette stays deliberately restrained: ultramarine, burnt sienna, and raw umber mixed to near-neutrality in the midground zones where reflection and depth converge. Three pieces from the series were shown in the 2024 Open Studio exhibition.
